3M is seeking a Senior Electrochemist for the Corporate Research and Development Division located in Maplewood, Minnesota. Be part of what’s next!

Job Summary:

The position of Senior Electrochemist is a research and development position involving the development of new materials and technologies for Electrolysers, Fuel Cells, and related electrochemical devices. The focus will be on electrochemical conversion of CO2 to CO or other useful products.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Support the development of new methodology for the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into CO and related products.
- Participate in and support other development activities within Fuel Cell Components Group.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- Currently in final year or possess a PhD in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Current GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Minimum of 1 year combined electrochemistry and/or electrochemical engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently in final year or possess a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science from an accredited university.
- PhD thesis in Electochemical Engineering and/or Electrochemistry.
- Experience in the development and/or testing of electrochemical devices.
- Experience in the development and/or testing of new materials for electrochemical devices.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills including the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Systematic problem solving and data driven decision making skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Location: Maplewood, Minnesota

Travel: May include up to 10%
Relocation: Is authorized

Division Info- Fuel Cell Components Program: Research, development, and commercialization of novel, leading-edge polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell components, including precious metal electro catalysts and proton conducting polymer membranes, and their integration into high performance, durable, cost-effective assemblies.

This particular position is a temporary, part-time non-exempt assignment with 3M's Technical Aide Program and is not benefit eligible. The Technical Aide Program is designed to support the 3M technical community. As a Technical Aide located in Maplewood, MN you will be assisting the 3M technical staff in the performance of their Job Responsibilities. It is a great way to get relevant work experience that complements your education.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Preparation of experimental samples, including cutting out materials, assembling and
- processing them, making basic property measurements and recording details in laboratory
- notebook.
- Experiment setup, including connecting test fixtures to test apparatus and making
- modifications to test apparatus as necessary.
- Analyzing and summarizing test data.
- With experience and after reviewing selected technical literature, operation of some
- electrochemical tests such as cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, and
- electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

This position is PART-TIME and limited to working no more than 32 hours per week and 899 hours per service credit year.

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- Completed at least one semester of a post high school degree program from an accredited college or university OR 3 years of 3M experience as a technician in lieu of the above education requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
- Current overall cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a Bachelor’s level program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline with an accredited university, having completed at a minimum your Sophomore year
- Position will require part-time availability (4-8 hours per week) during regular business hours throughout the school year
- Position will require part-time availability during regular business hours throughout the school year (two 8-hour days) and up to 32 hours per week during the summer
- Preferred applicant will have demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete tasks on time, and has excellent attention to detail.
- Interest in renewable energy, electrochemistry, and/or fuel cells.
- Advanced knowledge of PC hardware and Microsoft Windows, including ability to debug hardware and software issues.
